She is the author of the novel America, the Beautiful. The semi-autobiographical novel features a protagonist named "America Throne" and was overshadowed by the events of 9/11.
Zappa is married to Paul Doucette, the drummer for Matchbox Twenty. She gave birth to their first child, Mathilda Plum Doucette, on December 21, 2004, which would have been her late father's sixty-fourth birthday. Mathilda is Frank Zappa's first grandchild.

Dweezil Zappa (born September 5, 1969, in Los Angeles, California) is a heavy metal guitarist. Dweezil's registered birth name was Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa, although this occurred only because the hospital at which he was born refused to register him under the name Dweezil. The name was a nickname coined by Frank for an oddly-curled pinky-toe of Gail's. His father instead used the first names of his bandmates to form a name. He was always called "Dweezil" by his family and was unaware that this was not the name on his birth certificate. Upon this discovery at the age of five, he insisted on having his nickname become his legal name. Gail and Frank hired an attorney and soon the name Dweezil was official.

Ahmet Emuukha Rodan Zappa (born May 15, 1974 in Los Angeles, California) is a musician. He is the third of four children born to American musician Frank Zappa and Gail Sloatman. Zappa was named after Ahmet Ertegun, one of two brothers who founded and headed Atlantic Records and played an important role in Frank Zappa's early career. Zappa has released several albums with his brother Dweezil Zappa, as well as writing the song Frogs With Dirty Little Lips with his father. On October 19th, 2006, The Jim Henson Company announced it had hired Ahmet to write a treatment for a feature film version of the hit 1980s television show Fraggle Rock.

Diva Thin Muffin Mugeen Zappa is the youngest child of Frank Zappa. She was born on July 30, 1979 in Los Angeles and is the sister of Moon Unit Zappa, Dweezil Zappa and Ahmet Zappa. Diva once appeared on stage in 1993 at London's Marquee Club (now long gone) with the band "Z", featuring Ahmet and Dweezil Zappa. Her father, Frank Zappa, admitted in a 1982 interview that Diva was so named because she was screaming louder than all the other babies in the hospital nursery.
